Youth teams & parental consent
For a youth team, strivn adapts the experience to the players’ age and brings parents/guardians into the loop: players are added one by one, a GDPR consent request goes out over WhatsApp, and — for teens — parents receive call-ups alongside the player. The team type is chosen at creation (setup wizard, step 1) or in Team settings.
The three team types
Section titled “The three team types”| Type | Audience | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Adults / seniors | Adult players | Full experience: direct communication, check-ins, load, team fines. |
| Youth (teens) | ~12-18 y/o | Players use the portal and receive their own call-ups; wellness, GPS and photo require consent (parental below the legal age); parents also receive every call-up and can answer it; team fines disabled; birth date required. |
| Kids | ~6-12 y/o | Everything goes through parents: call-ups, reminders and answers. Kids have no app access. No wellness check-ins, no player AI, no fines. Parental consent and birth date required. |
Adding a player on a youth team
Section titled “Adding a player on a youth team”A youth team has no bulk add (no paste-a-table, no CSV import): each player is added individually, with their birth date and one or more parents/guardians.
- From the setup wizard or the Roster page, click Add a player.
- Fill in first name, last name and birth date (required).
- In the Parents / guardians section, add one or more parents (first name, last name, WhatsApp phone, optional email). Each one receives a consent request over WhatsApp as soon as the player is saved.
Parental consent
Section titled “Parental consent”Each parent/guardian receives a WhatsApp message with a personal link to a confirmation page, then a consent page. There they confirm they are indeed the child’s parent, then tick what they authorize for four distinct purposes:
| Purpose | Scope |
|---|---|
| Club participation | Roster, calendar, call-ups and attendance — required for participation, not subject to consent. |
| Wellness & health | Wellness questionnaires, injury follow-up and sport-related medical data. |
| GPS & load data | Training load and GPS data (equipped teams). |
| Profile photo | The child’s profile photo in the app, visible to staff and the team. |
An unchecked box counts as a refusal. The parent can withdraw consent at any time via a new link.
From the player’s profile, Parents / guardians section, you can at any time:
- Show link or Send link to resend the consent link to a parent;
- check each parent’s status (Invite pending, Confirmed, Declined, Invite expired) and the per-purpose detail (granted / declined / withdrawn / pending);
- record a club attestation if consent was collected offline (a signed document is then required);
- remove a parent — already-recorded consent withdrawals stay in effect.
Tracking consent across the whole team
Section titled “Tracking consent across the whole team”The Consents & guardians page (Team settings) lists, for every player, their parents/guardians and any flags (verified consent, club-attested, undelivered messages). It’s the single place to spot profiles that still need completing before activation or the start of a season.
Call-ups and parent portal
Section titled “Call-ups and parent portal”- On a teens team, call-ups go to the player and their parents; each can answer independently.
- On a kids team, only parents receive the call-up and answer for the child.
Once consent is given, each parent can create their own access and follow their child from the app — see Parent portal.
